As a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics team, we compete each year with hundreds of teams from around the world. Beginning in January, all teams are given six weeks to build a robot that will outperform their competitors while staying within strict guidelines. The FIRST program teaches students valuable skills necessary for success, as well as helping others. The competitive nature of FIRST drives students to work together as a team to build the best robot, thereby instilling teamwork values and improving self-confidence. Through a system known as "gracious professionalism", teams are urged to offer assistance to others, as well as respect everyone involved with the program.
